Le président de la République démocratique du Congo, Joseph Kabila, doit respecter la Constitution de son pays qui lui interdit de briguer un nouveau mandat en 2016, a déclaré dimanche à Kinshasa le secrétaire d'Etat américain John Kerry.
"Je crois que [le président Kabila] a clairement en tête le fait que les Etats-Unis d'Amérique sont intimement convaincus [...] que le processus constitutionnel doit être respecté", a déclaré à la presse le ministre des Affaires étrangères américain, John Kerry à l'issue d'une rencontre avec le président congolais

Les Etats-Unis ont exhorté dimanche le président de la République démocratique du Congo, Joseph Kabila, à quitter le pouvoir fin 2016 comme le prévoit la Constitution congolaise, et ont annoncé une aide supplémentaire pour soutenir l'organisation des élections à venir dans le pays.

U.S. Urges Congolese Leader Not to Run for Third Term
KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo — Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday urged the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo to respect his nation’s Constitution and not run for another term in 2016.There has been speculation among the political opposition that President Joseph Kabila, who has been in office since 2001, might seek to have the Constitution amended so that he could run for a third term.“Clearly, the United States believes that a country is strengthened, that people have respect for their nation and their government, when a constitutional process is properly implemented and upheld by that government,” Mr. Kerry said.

US offers $30M to Congo for upcoming elections
KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — The United States is prepared to give Congo $30 million in aid for stability and democracy-building — but wants President Joseph Kabila to agree to step down at the end of his current term in office, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday.
Kerry said Congo's government also needs to schedule elections soon. The vote is tentatively set for 2016, although a firm date has not yet been set.
In a private Sunday meeting, Kerry said he urged Kabila to follow Congo's constitution in the upcoming elections, which would prohibit him from running for a third consecutive term as president.
